What is a modular system?
Istanbul Kent University Turkish Preparatory Program consists of four different modules that last for seven weeks at most. These modules aim to learn Turkish at the beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate and upper levels, respectively. There is a short break after each module. Students who start learning Turkish at the beginner level at the beginning of the semester have the opportunity to complete all modules at the end of the semester.
How is my Turkish level measured before I start the program?
Before the preparatory program begins, all students take the multiple-choice Level Determination Exam. Following the exam results, students who are placed in programs appropriate to their level are eligible to take the Turkish Proficiency Exam if they receive sufficient scores. Those who do not take the Level Determination Exam begin learning Turkish from the beginner level.
How will my Turkish level be measured in the module?
In addition to the written exams to be held within the four different modules adopted by the Istanbul Kent University Turkish Preparatory Program, it is measured with alternative and complementary methods such as midterm exams, homework, presentations, and class participation.
How can I start my undergraduate and associate degree education after successfully completing the program?
All students who successfully complete the upper-level Turkish module and who have no absences are required to take the Turkish Proficiency Exam, which is administered four times a year: at the beginning of the fall semester, at the end of the fall semester, at the beginning of the spring semester, and at the end of the spring semester. They can start their associate and undergraduate education after receiving sufficient scores.

Do I have to attend classes? Will being late to class affect my attendance rate?
Yes. It is mandatory for all students to attend 85% of the classes for each module. Students who arrive late to class are marked as "absent" for the duration of the class hour they arrive late. For this reason, students are kindly requested to be sensitive to class hours.
Are there any supplementary materials used in the course other than the main materials?
Yes. All of our faculty members prepare alternative materials other than the main material determined jointly and share them with you both on online platforms and in class.
Can I object to my exam results?
Yes. At the beginning of each new module, students and faculty members come together to review the exam papers. If students wish to object to their exam results after this review, they can prepare a petition to be submitted to the Foreign Languages School Secretariat within 3 business days or send a scanned copy of the petition to turkcehazirlikprogrami@kent.edu.tr. The objection result will be sent to the student's e-mail address within 3 business days.
What should I do if I am sick or miss an exam or assessment?
Students who fall ill or miss an exam or assessment must obtain a medical report from a fully equipped hospital. These reports are not valid for absences from classes; they are only used for make-up exams, presentations, homework, etc. and alternative assessment methods. No medical report is accepted for the Turkish Proficiency Exam.
Is there a doctor at our university?
Yes. Our university has a Health Center where a doctor and a nurse work. It is free and open to all students during working hours.
What should I do if I miss school due to a family emergency (accident, death, etc.)?
In urgent family situations, the student must apply to the Foreign Languages School Secretariat with a petition explaining the situation or send the petition to turkcehazirlikprogrami@kent.edu.tr. The administration decides whether the student will be given the right to make up.
Is there any administrative action taken against me if I cheat?
Yes. The exam invigilator fills out a Detailed Due Diligence Form and this form is referred to the disciplinary board for discussion.
What is a Detailed Due Diligence Form?
The Detailed Due Diligence Form is a document filled out by faculty members to detect and report any cheating, disruptive behavior, or actions that may be encountered in class or during an exam.
Is there a shared internet connection at our university?
Yes. Istanbul Kent University offers free internet access to all students within the school.
Are there psychological counseling and guidance services at our university?
Yes. There is a Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center within our university, and you can get help from this center free of charge.
Can I communicate with lecturers outside of class?
You can contact the lecturers and send them an e-mail during the working hours shared with you at the beginning of each module.
