Level Determination Exam (SBS)

Students who enroll in a program where the language of instruction is Turkish at Istanbul Kent University take a multiple-choice exam called the Level Determination Exam (SBS) to determine their Turkish language proficiency. This exam is administered to determine students' Turkish proficiency, place them in a Preparatory class appropriate to their level, and to determine students who are eligible to take the Istanbul Kent University Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS). Students who receive a sufficient score from this exam are eligible to take the TYS, while other students are placed in one of the appropriate levels in the Turkish Preparatory Program according to their scores. If students think they have not been placed in a class appropriate to their level, they can contact their instructors within the first week. Students who do not take the exam are placed in an A1 class and receive basic Turkish education.

In addition, students who are in an English program but will optionally study in a one-year Turkish preparatory program must also take the SBS.
