The curriculum of Istanbul Kent University Turkish Preparatory Program consists of 4 modules, each of which is at least 7 weeks long. These modules are named as follows, corresponding to a level in learning Turkish:

  • Beginner (A1)
  • Lower-Intermediate (A2)
  • Intermediate (B1)
  • Upper (B2)

There is an integrated teaching design in the curriculum at every level. In other words, there are no separate lessons for listening, speaking, reading and writing. Language skills are taught as a whole.

At the Beginner (A1) and Pre-Intermediate (A2) levels, general Turkish is taught. At the Intermediate (B1) and Upper (B2) levels, academic Turkish is taught, which includes the Turkish language skills that students will need in their academic lives.

The assesment and evaluation system is also designed to be process-based in line with the curriculum. Students take one classic exam during the 7-week module. In addition, alternative measurement methods such as timed writing exercises, in-class presentations, video projects, and group discussions have been adopted to measure the curriculum..

At the end of the module, students are given a Level Completion Exam (STS). The average module score for each student is calculated by taking the average of the points they collected out of 100 in the module and the points they received out of 100 in the STS. Accordingly, students are given a letter grade.

  • A letter grade: 85-100
  • B letter grade: 75-84
  • C letter grade: 60-74
  • F letter grade: Fail

Students must receive a letter grade of A, B or C to advance to the next level. Students who receive a letter grade of F repeat the same level using different books/materials than the previous level.

In the Kent Turkish Preparatory Program, students are required to attend at least 85% of the class hours during a module. Students who exceed the 15% absence limit are not allowed to take the Level Completion Exam (STS); they must repeat the level.

Students who want to be exempt from the Turkish Preparatory Program due to their sufficient knowledge of Turkish and who have a document proving that they have been successful at the level determined by our university in exams whose equivalence is accepted by our university can apply to the Student Affairs Directorate regarding the subject. Applications must be made in writing and at least one month before the start of fall semester classes.

* Scores from TYT are rounded as follows:

  • 59.50=60
  • 64.50=65
  • 69.50=70
  • 74.50=75
